- Full product documentation
- Working prototype, full functionality is not required (80%)
- Current development schedule
- Business plan, executive summary style which includes potential impact, problem definition, and future features
- 3-5 minute video introducing the team, innovation and plans

Using Microsoft tools and technology, competitors can unleash their ideas, their curiosities, and their talents towards creating innovative software applications. Competitors are asked to demonstrate innovation on the .NET Framework and Windows platform but the possibilities only begin with these requirements. Globally, students in this invitational conceive, test, and build their ideas into applications that can change the world.

General Guidelines - North America Competition
- Teams of up to 4 individuals registered on Imagine Cup Web site by May 2 2008
- 1 mentor strongly suggested
- Team members may come from different schools
- Theme: Imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment
- 10 Teams will advance to the National Finals in the US
- Presentations and documentation at the worldwide finals must be in English
- 1 Team will advance to the World Wide finals in France
- Presentations and documentation at the worldwide finals must be in English
- All projects must include at least 2 Required Elements and 2 Optional Elements
Required Elements
- Implement or consume a XML Web Service
- Design project on .NET Framework 2.0 or later
- Use of Visual Studio family (Express, Standard, or Team System) for development

- Implement or use a PopFly Block
- Microsoft Interoperability techniques
- Windows Live SDK
- Mobile device
- .NET Compact Framework
- ASP .NET
- SQL Server
